Skipper is a small, hand-built thing. If something's wrong, email hello@skipper.fm and a human, the person who built it, will read it.

“The Skipper says he doesn't know these roads”

That's the honest answer, not a bug. Every story in Skipper is written and recorded for a specific place, and right now the only place with a finished collection is Lake Tahoe, California. Outside that basin there's nothing for him to tell you about, and he'd rather say so than make something up.

You can still hear him without going anywhere, and without spending anything. On the home screen, tap “Not near Tahoe? Hear a quick sample.”. That’s one real telling from up at the lake, no account and no credit. And if you want a taste of a particular drive, tell him where you'd go and he'll play you a clip from the route he comes back with, before you decide to build it. More regions are the plan; there's no date to promise.

The stops aren't playing while I drive

A few things to check, roughly in order of likelihood:

  • Location permission. Skipper needs “While Using the App” to know when you've reached a stop. Settings → Skipper → Location.
  • Precise Location must be on. With it off, iOS gives a rough neighborhood instead of a position, and a stop can't be timed to the road.
  • Keep the app open. Skipper plays in the foreground while you drive, so mount the phone, or start the drive before you set off.
  • Thin signal. Tahoe has real dead zones. Download the drive before you leave and it plays from the phone with no signal at all.

Credits

Each account gets a set number of free drives to create. Making a drive spends one. Deleting a drive doesn't give it back. The work of building it already happened. Planning is free. Talk to the Skipper as long as you like, change your mind as often as you like, and throw away as many routes as you want. A credit is only spent when you tell him to build one.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings → Delete account. It removes your account, your saved drives, and any credits you have left, straight away and for good. There's no undo, and unused credits don't come back. If you can't get into your account to delete it, email us.

Forgot your password

On the sign-in screen, tap “Forgot your password?” and we'll email a link. It works once and expires after an hour. If it doesn't turn up, check the spam bin before writing to us.

Is Skipper safe to use while driving?

It's built to be listened to, not looked at: start it, mount the phone, and drive. Nothing in Skipper needs your eyes once a drive is running. Don't handle the phone while moving; no story is worth it.

Still stuck

Email hello@skipper.fm. Tell us what happened, roughly where you were, and what iPhone you're on, and that’s usually enough to work it out.
